Peruvians do not hesitate to greet you with "¡Hola, gringo!". If you are a white American male and a Peruvian female greets you in this fashion, she's probably trying to get you to go out with her so that she can one day marry you and become a US citizen.
Peru is not exactly a haven for efficiency. Do not expect things to be on time, or exactly as they intend to be.
